Museum in Linggarjati (West Java)

Description

The museum in Linggarjati informs about the negotiations for independence that took place between the Republic of Indonesia and The Netherlands in 1946. Indonesian and Dutch partners want to make a 'living' museum from the now rather static museum in Linggarjati. The objective of the Foundation 'Vrienden van Linggarjati' is to renovate, expand and maintain the museum as a part of the shared history of Indonesia and The Netherlands and to promote the knowledge of this history. The proposal also contains a renovation of the buildings and a rehabilitation of the surroundings. The Indonesian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture and Tourism and the Bupati of the district Kuningan support the initiative. The parties involved are: Forum Indonesia The Netherlands (FINED), Forum The Netherlands Indonesia (FNI), Indonesian association of alumni foreign universities (Interfel) and the Foundation Friends from Linggarjati (SVL). The FINED and the FNI were founded simultaneously in January 1995, respectively in Jakarta and in The Hague. FNI recently became Stichting Nederland Indonesia Conferentie (NIC) (Association The Netherlands Indonesia Conference). The reason that led to the founding of these organizations was the debacle of the official relations between the governments of the two countries in respect of development cooperation. The ties between Indonesia and The Netherlands, based on shared history, had to be given new form and content by other ways and means. A job training and internship plan was launched for young professionals from Indonesia. These young professionals later organized themselves under the name International Fellows (Interfel) and became the core that organised many other activities and projects.
